Folks,
During the past two weeks when making some rehab training, I had incurred some issues.
To avoid the possibility of a relapse, we took decision to rest for a few days.
With a safety first view, positively I can advise that we kicked the cycle off today and made the first session.
Set up:
The cycle today was achieved using the bike which I used to go to Lisbon on in May 2017, which was connected to my Wahoo Kickr “smart trainer”
The “smart trainer” allows for the bike to positioned onto a special cog which works closely with sophisticated software to help simulated the conditions of the landscape of the road.
This means that when climbing hills, a signal is sent to the smart trainer to simulate what a plus three percent gradient would feel like and similarly what a negative three precent would feel like also.
This in turns means that I am required to adjust the gearing to adapt to the changing road conditions and more importantly need to increase the level of effort to maintain momentum when climbing hills.
Utilising three different software packages I was able to to take the GPX files from “R2S day one” and build a route which I can follow.
From our special app “Bkool” we can see an outline of the route which I will be following in the up and coming sessions.
Todays route
The route today see’s us leaving Paradise and heading down the West Coast of Scotland towards Cairnryan doing our best to avoid the crazy A77 road
We enclose a screen shot from my lap top which I had positioned on a music stand close to the bike which provides a high level view
Progress in this session
From Strava we enclose a screen shot of what was achieved in this session
Today’s cycle
Having recently felt sore at different times during the past two weeks, with an air of trepidation we focused on just getting the cycle started
Todays cycle was a little different to the rehab work that i had been doing as we started to introduce the ascent into the Ayrshire Alps
Whilst we are cycling at homes and miss the wind and distraction from cars, we are still required to ensure regular hydration especially when the conditions can become rather warm very quickly
Today’s kit
I was delighted that our kit from “The Road To Milan” was partially able to fit.
Although the tight fitting lycra is not always favourable to bigger cyclists that had put weight on, so we may need to look at wearing some loose fitting Celtic training tops/shirts instead
Progress to date
Sessions | Miles cycled | Climbing |
01 | 9.32 miles | 350 feet |
We are off and pedalling !
Overall I am delighted to have got the cycle started and will say thank you again to everyone for their continued encouragement and support.
