The Road to Milan – Day 07 – Part 01 – Biella to San Siro, Milan
With six days of crazy climbing and over thirty-six thousand feet covered, the mood around the hotel was focused on the pleasant cycle into the San Siro, with just over 650 feet expected—ecstatic was the understatement !
Todays cycle was from Biella to San Siro, Milan. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as the San Siro, is a football stadium in the San Siro district of Milan, Italy. This is where Celtic played Feyenoord in the 1970 European Cup Final. Today’s journey celebrates the huge efforts of the Celtic team from the 60s and 70s.
En route to the San Siro today, the team faced a different kind of opponent — searing heat, with temperatures soaring to 44 degrees, draining every ounce of energy from already weary bodies.
The road took its toll, Punctures struck. A Di2 technical failure threatened to halt progress altogether for one… but fortune favoured the determined. A nearby cafe became a sanctuary, the issue resolved just in time to keep the wheels turning and the dream alive.
It wasn’t smooth.There were knocks, a few bumps and bruises, and moments where the heat pressed hard against their limits.
But this team doesn’t break.
Through grit, teamwork, and sheer resolve, every single rider made it through — arriving battered, exhausted… but together and what a lovely reception at San Siro with some family and friends present.
And with that, the first mission of the day was complete.
