Folks,
Last Saturday my wife and I where delighted to attend the first of two annual events for the Ceann Creige GAA, player of the year dance for the Senior teams.
Being a little biased as we know the families which help run and contribute their time to the club, drawing a comparison there is a lot of similarities to the great work of another club in the East End of the city.
Ceann Creige
Ceann Creige was set up in April 2019 and their name means Craigend in Irish. This is an area in the East End of Glasgow and was the first location of their underage sections
The club is set up to provide the sports of hurling and camogie to all and its primary focus is the East End of Glasgow
The club is actively involved in local schools in the East End of Glasgow and in 2023, has introduced nearly 1,000 children
Teams
The club provides regular school blocks to get children active and provides school tournaments. Each block can contribute to over 500 active hours for around 200 children
The club has an adult camogie team (females) that caters for all levels across a vibrant social scene whether that be people coming over for education/work or looking to get active
The club has a hurling team (men) and they provide an active competitive scene. They are the current Lancashire Senior Hurling League & Championship Winners for the first time in the clubs history
GAA
The club has regular trips to Ireland to immerse the players in the culture of the GAA and the community values it promotes
The club was recently in Dublin (Sept 23) and this allowed 20 children to experience Croke Park (the home of the GAA for the first time) and play matches
The club holds regular awards ceremonies for both its underage and adult sections. Promoting an inclusive environment for all and look forward to its kids sections awards night in December
Community
Ceann Creige operates in areas of deprivation and does it upmost to ensure no participant is prevented from physical activity due to cost
Ceann Creige provides annual summer camps to ensure participants can get a hot meal and physical activity during the summer holidays for free of charge
The club provides more than just sport and hold other regular trips – such as an outdoor weekend for our underage
