20231004 Mouldy Goes to Seville – MGS Session 003

Folks,

After finally getting on the bike Monday evening, I was pleased to continue with the pedalling today.

I am still feeling some tension and minor pain in effected areas so took today to achieve something without over doing it.

Set up:

The cycle today was achieved using the bike which I used to go to Lisbon on in May 2017, which was connected to my Wahoo Kickr “smart trainer”

The “smart trainer” allows for the bike to positioned onto a special cog which works closely with sophisticated software to help simulated the conditions of the landscape of the road.

This means that when climbing hills, a signal is sent to the smart trainer to simulate what a plus three percent gradient would feel like and similarly what a negative three precent would feel like also.

This in turns means that I am required to adjust the gearing to adapt to the changing road conditions and more importantly need to increase the level of effort to maintain momentum when climbing hills.

Utilising three different software packages I was able to to take the GPX files from “R2S day one” and build a route which I can follow.

From our special app “Bkool” we can see an outline of the route which I will be following in the up and coming sessions.

Todays route

The route today see’s us leaving Fenwick on the A77 cycle path before going under the M77 motorway, heading through the villages of Waterside, Moscow, Galston.

We continue to head South and West through North Ayrshire

Today’s cycle

Similar to yesterday we had some bumpy climbs most of which where in the 3 % range. ,

For parts of cycle we had some welcome descents, which usually mean that very soon you will be climbing again.

During my recent rehab work, I had mainly been cycling on flat Velodrome or TT type routes focusing on time on bike as opposed to distance, speed or climbing.

Therefore the next few days we will certainly need to get used to the climbing and the pressure (burning) on my quads as a result.

When cycling at home, we pleasantly miss the heads winds along with distraction from cars , some gravel and pot holes. We however cannot escape the heat that is generated from efforts being put in.

Today’s kit

Focusing on comfort and the fact that I am a big frame, tight lycra is currently not my friend.

Therefore we decided to wear something more comfortable from the Celtic shirt collection.

With European football under the lights at Paradise tonight. Decided to wear one of my favourite tops which was worn in 1984 against both Rapid Vienna and Edinburgh Hibernian.

Kit = 1984 – Celtic – Away Strip – Gold “AKA Rapid away”
