Folks,
After finally getting on the bike yesterday evening, I was pleased to continue with pedalling today.
Ahead of cycling today had felt some tension in effected areas so took a view to delay the start of todays cycle until late in the afternoon.
Set up:
The cycle today was achieved using the bike which I used to go to Lisbon on in May 2017, which was connected to my Wahoo Kickr “smart trainer”
The “smart trainer” allows for the bike to positioned onto a special cog which works closely with sophisticated software to help simulated the conditions of the landscape of the road.
This means that when climbing hills, a signal is sent to the smart trainer to simulate what a plus three percent gradient would feel like and similarly what a negative three precent would feel like also.
This in turns means that I am required to adjust the gearing to adapt to the changing road conditions and more importantly need to increase the level of effort to maintain momentum when climbing hills.
Utilising three different software packages I was able to to take the GPX files from “R2S day one” and build a route which I can follow.
From our special app “Bkool” we can see an outline of the route which I will be following in the up and coming sessions.
Todays route
The route today see’s us leaving Waterfoot which is in the Newton Mearns area of Glasgow, heading South and West through North Ayrshire
We enclose a screen shot from my lap top which I had positioned on a music stand close to the bike which provides a high level view
Progress in this session
From Strava we enclose a screen shot of what was achieved in this session
Today’s cycle
Well it started to get real today as we experienced a range of climbs with the most challenging being around 7.1 %
Todays cycle was a little different to the rehab work that I had been doing as we started to introduce the ascent into the Ayrshire Alps going past the Bonnytoun golf course, which is a challenge normally when outside on both the bike and again today on the smart trainer
Whilst we are cycling at home and pleasantly miss the heads winds along distraction from cars and some gravel and pot holes, we experienced pretty hot and humid conditions due to efforts being put in.
Today’s kit
Whilst yesterday we had the opportunity to wear “The Road To Milan” cycling kit
Focusing on the fact that I am a big frame and tight lycra is currently not my friend, decided to wear something more comfortable from the Celtic shirt collection.
Kit = 2003 – Celtic – The Road To Seville – Away Strip
Progress to date

Overall I am delighted to have got the cycle started and will say thank you again to everyone for their continued encouragement and support.
